Error Code: R0000-922-01

Error Message:
Filer’s EIN and Name Control in the Return Header must match data in the e-File database, unless “Name Change” or “Name or Address Change” checkbox is checked, if applicable.

Understanding the Error:
You’ve encountered error R0000-922-01 while e-filing your tax return. This error indicates a discrepancy between the information on your return and the data stored in the IRS e-File database. Specifically, the Employer Identification Number (EIN) and Name Control, a four-character code derived from the business name, don’t match.

Common Causes:

  • Incorrect EIN or Name Control: Double-check these values for accuracy on your return and in the IRS database.
  • Name Change: If your business name has changed, ensure you’re using the correct Name.
  • Prior Year Name Control: In some cases, the IRS might use a different Name Control than what we’ve calculated. We are calculating the name control using the Business Type you choose while adding the Filer Profile.

Steps to Resolve:

  1. Verify EIN and Name Control:
    • Carefully review your tax return and compare the EIN and Name Control with those on your business records and any previous tax filings.
    • Address any inconsistencies found.
  2. Check Name Change or Address Change Boxes:
    • If applicable, ensure these boxes are accurately checked on your return.
  3. Contact the IRS:
    • If the issue persists, reach out to the IRS e-help Desk at 866-255-0654.
    • They can verify your EIN and guide correcting any discrepancies.
  4. Enter the correct information and Retransmit:
    • If you’ve made any corrections to the EIN or Name Control, retransmit it.
    • Please note that the retransmission is FREE with TaxZerone.
