When e-filing tax returns with the IRS, accuracy in every field is essential. A common issue taxpayers face is IRS Error Code R0000-906-02. This error occurs when the Routing Transit Number (RTN) entered for an Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) payment does not match the IRS e-File database.

At TaxZerone, we explain what this error means and guide you through the steps to fix it quickly.

IRS Error Code: R0000-906-02
IRS Error Message: Routing Transit Number (RTN) included in the return must be present in the e-File database.

Why is this error taking place?

The cause for rejection is:

  • An invalid or wrong routing number.
  • It is not included in IRS’s list of approved banks.
  • Having a RTN for a savings account instead of a checking account number.
  • Attempting to utilize a foreign banking account (IRS only accommodates U.S. banks).

What It Means

  • The RTN (routing transit number) provided in your return does not match any entry in the IRS’s e-File database.
  • As a result, the IRS rejects the return due to a database validation error

How to Fix IRS Error R0000-906-02?
